The Garden Room is now complete !

April 2010

After an investment of half a million pounds and six months of development, the Garden Room with its stunning central glazed roof lantern, opened for its first event on Saturday 17 April 2010. It is the new location for all civil ceremonies that take place here and is also ideal for private and corporate events. The room is suitable for reception drinks, dancing, refreshments or as a break-out area, a perfect addition to the highly acclaimed Orangery and 9 acre gardens. The Garden Room

February 2010 update

Artists Impression

At the end of October 2009, the Pergola was removed completely and work commenced on the New Garden Room. The artist's impression shown here gives a good indication of how it will look on completion, along with the adjoining link to the Orangery.

The Garden Room will be the location for all civil ceremonies that take place here, and will also be ideal for private and corporate events. The room will be offered for reception drinks, dancing, refreshments or as a break out area. This all-year round ceremony venue will have doors across the full width which can be fully opened, thereby maintaining the impressive views of the mill barn garden and the main bridge.

The Orangery is still available for weddings, corporate and private events during the build period, although with some date and time restrictions. Our team in the Events Office will be happy to give exact details upon request. The construction area has been aesthetically screened to minimise disruption and visual impact. The photograph here shows the construction behind the screening as at the end of January 2010.

Discounted rates are available throughout the build period and details of these can be found within the Wedding Days section of the website for Weddings, alternatively contact the Events team to discuss your specific requirements. Prices for all private and/or corporate events are available on application.

Palace bride ties the last knot under the Pergola

For almost a decade the beautiful Pergola at Turkey Mill has been the location for hundreds of happy couples taking their wedding vows. The Pergola saw its last wedding on Sunday 25 October 2009 as Erica Thornton, a registrar from the Archbishops Palace, Maidstone married Steve Bowyer. Erica, who performed her very first civil ceremony as a registrar at Turkey Mill, made her own vows in the very same place.

Work has already commenced to completely remove the Pergola and replace it with the new Garden Room which will be the location for all the civil ceremonies that take place there. It is the end of an era for Turkey Mills Pergola, however the new Garden Room will provide an outstanding all-weather licensed area, available for the exclusive use of hundreds more happy couples in the future.

Introducing the stunning new Garden Room

Turkey Mill are pleased to announce the confirmed development of the stunning new Garden Room.  Work will commence at the end of October 2009 and will be completed in March 2010.  The proposals have been supported by the Head of KCC's Wedding Registrars, and the Garden Room will operate as the licensed area for all civil ceremonies from 1 April 2010.

Specialists are working on the interior design of the building which will be faced externally with traditional Kentish ragstone and brickwork, with purpose-made curved head timber doors, in the style of the existing Orangery.  The main feature of the building will be a stunning central glazed roof lantern which will ensure that the  room is always light and add to the effect of the gardens reaching into the covered space.  The Garden Room will be connected to the Orangery by a fixed and covered link.

For those couples marrying at Turkey Mill, the capacity will be increased to a maximum of 150 (for ceremony and wedding breakfast)  For those arriving from a ceremony held elsewhere, the maximum capacity will be 170 guests (with reception drinks served in the Garden Room)

Further information will follow, in the meantime the computer-generated images below should give a good idea of this improved all-weather facility.  If you have any queries, please contact the Events Office 01622 765511 ex 1.
